CYSTIC FIBROSIS
Cystic fibrosis a something you are born with. It may not be diagnosed till you’re a child or even later but it’s there when you’re born. It’s a genetic disorder. There’s a gene and if both the mother and and the father pass it on then the child it. It’s a disease of the mucus glands and sweat glands. It affects the lungs – but not only the lungs, other parts of the body too: pancreas, liver and so on. In these organs it causes a build-up of thick mucus. In the lungs this build-up of mucus clogs the airways so there’s difficulty breathing (the oxygen isn’t get into the bloodstream) and the clogged mucus is susceptible to infection. So it’s the same pattern: mucus then breathing difficulty then infection.
